Workshop with Protein Dance for young people (aged 14+) plus ticket to performance!

Known for turning the everyday into witty and profound dance theatre, Luca Silvestrini’s award-winning Protein return with a timely new piece of physical theatre where love, wanting and connectedness take centre stage. Logging on to our lives online, LOL (lots of love) delves into the world of electronic communication to uncover the evolutionary shift that social networking and the internet have had upon the way we live, love one another and belong to society in general.

Protein tour to Warwick Arts Centre on Tuesday 8th March at 7.30pm, and you could gain an insight into their show and work alongside dancers from the company in a very exciting workshop opportunity!

CMS Global Beats Conference 2011

It gives me great pleasure to enclose details about the second Warwickshire Music Service Global Beats Conference on 12 March 2011 at North Leamington School, Sandy Lane, Blackdown, Leamington Spa CV32 6RD.

The day will consist of a number of practical hands-on workshops which aim to give delegates not only a basic understanding of how to play the instruments but also, with future guidance and support from CMS, in how to teach them.

The first conference proved to be a fun and inspirational day ~ visit our Global Beats page on www.musicforlife.net to see further information and photos. This year’s conference includes an exciting range of new workshops including Calypso and Gamelan.

RSC Open Stages 2011/2012

Take part in the UK’s biggest amateur theatre project
Produce your own RSC Shakespeare themed production

RSC Open Stages is a new project that aims to embrace, develop and celebrate amateur theatre, re-forging the bond with the world of professional theatre.

Over 2011/2012 the RSC, in partnership with a number of regional theatres and amateur theatre associations, will run a national programme of skills sharing events and showcases, with amateur societies from across the UK invited to produce their own RSC branded Shakespeare themed production.

‘The RSC wants to lead a step change in the relationship with the amateur sector; to celebrate its rich traditions, open our doors to its work and collaborate with partners nationally to leave a significant legacy.’

Creating Safety: child protection and youth arts
Accredited Training Course

19th May 2011, 10 am- 4.15 pm, WAYC , Leamington Spa

Artswork is pleased to be delivering this essential one day accredited course -‘Creating Safety: child protection and youth arts’ in partnership with WAYC , Leamington Spa. This course is being delivered as part of the ‘Progress’ Project. ‘Progress’ is subsiding places for those booking on from voluntary or community organisations (See below).

This one day course is essential training for anyone working within youth arts, but especially those using more physical art forms, such as dance and drama. Developed in conjunction with South East Dance this course compliments the Arts Council England “Keeping Arts Safe” guidelines developed with the NSPCC . The training will cover current child protection legislation in line with the requirements of the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), within the context of delivering a youth arts project and includes a “safe touch” section, exploring how child protection guidelines can be maintained within more physical art forms.

It will be of benefit to individuals and organisations looking to develop their own child protection policy and maintain standards of good practice, providing practical advice and guidelines to develop confidence and sensible structures around child protection issues within youth arts.

Credits: 4 credits

QCF Level: 3

Awarding Body: ABC .

Assessment Requirements: Participants will be asked to put together a portfolio of evidence for assessment. Participants will gather this evidence both on the course day and through independent work, following the course. This work will need to be submitted to obtain the accreditation for this course. Please contact Artswork’s Professional Development Manager for further information.

Prices for the course, which include lunch and refreshments, range from £140 to £160. However a £50 subsidy is available to all third sector workers, because of the support of the ‘Progress’ Project. (Please note that this subsidy is only available for bookings made before the 11th March 2011.)

_Information about the ‘Progress’ Project

Progress is a Children’s Workforce Development Council funded project which provides subsidised training for the voluntary and community sector young people’s workforce in England.

Progress seeks to deliver 25,000 accredited training opportunities to staff and volunteers working front-line with young people, between September 2010 and March 2011.

Behaviour Management and Youth Arts
13th October 2011, 10 am- 4.15 pm, WAYC , Leamington Spa

Artswork is pleased to be delivering the established, accredited one day course -‘Behaviour Management and Youth Arts’ in partnership with WAYC in Leamington Spa.

Artswork is the largest provider of specialist youth arts training courses and publications in the UK and all training and publications are written and supported by experienced youth arts specialists, all of whom are also currently involved in direct project work with young people.

The course looks into improving skills, knowledge and experience in order to develop an understanding of behavioural management and takes a look at the issues and barriers that are faced when undertaking Youth Arts projects.

This course is set up and led by experienced and knowledgeable youth arts specialists. It explores the practical aspects of behavioural management: health and safety issues, risk assessment and achieving key objectives. It aims to promote a style of engaging with young people that encourages positive behaviour to the benefit of all involved.

Participants recently undertaking this course have been keen to endorse the training:

“As a recently employed youth arts worker (dance) the course has been excellent- especially as asking questions hasn’t been a problem and terminology has been greatly accessible also”.

“Well planned yet flexible. This has been one of the best courses I’ve attended for a long time – thank you!”.

All participants will receive a certificate of attendance upon successful completion of the course and a wealth of practical resources. Prices for each course, which include lunch and refreshments, range from £110 to £150, with limited bursaries available. Our West African Drum and Dance School has some 10 years experience of delivering first class drumming and drum and dance workshops for schools, colleges and youth groups.

We cater for children of all ages and abilities – from pre-school to secondary. 

We currently deliver regular Drum and Dance Workshops throughout The Midlands, Derbyshire, Greater Manchester, Shropshire, Cheshire and Nottinghamshire. A full range of African drums and a selection of hand held instruments are provided – along with a whole lot of fun and learning for your pupils.
